12 Days of Christmas Stories Giveaway – Day 3

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00058]

It’s day three of the big giveaway already and today we’ve got Keira Andrews’ If Only In My Dreams. As ever, first the blurb:

To be home for Christmas, they must bridge the distance between them.
Charlie Yates is desperate. It’s almost Christmas and his flight home from college has been delayed. For days. Charlie promised his little sister Ava he’d be home for her first holiday season since going into remission from leukemia. Now he’s stuck on the opposite coast and someone else grabbed the last rental car. Someone he hasn’t even spoken to in four years. Someone who broke his heart.

Gavin Bloomberg’s childhood friendship with Charlie ended overnight after a day of stolen kisses. With years of resentment between them, they don’t want to be in the same room together, let alone a car. But for Ava’s sake, Gavin agrees to share the rental and drive across the country together.

As they face unexpected bumps along the road, can Charlie and Gavin pave the way to a future together?

Oh, I enjoyed this story so much! It was like a mince pie – sweet and fruity and nicely spiced. Warm and comforting but with a little kick. It was beautifully emotional and heartfelt… but also hot. I really like that about Keira Andrews’ writing – that she puts those two things – sweetness and heat –  together and makes them work brilliantly.

The two characters are both very appealing but (predictably for me) I particularly loved the slightly more tormented Gave, and there was a nice bit of history between them that was revisited to great emotional effect – I do love a bit of angsty backstory.

The story has a wonderful festive feeling to it – there’s a snow-in (how MUCH do I love a snow-in!) and a reindeer-run (don’t ask, just read the book) and a snowball fight and ALL that stuff, so that by the time I finished the book, I just felt full of Christmas spirit.

In short, I heartily recommend it to you all.

About Keira

After writing for years yet never really finding the right inspiration, Keira discovered her voice in gay romance, which has become a passion. She writes contemporary, historical, paranormal, and fantasy fiction, and—although she loves delicious angst along the way—Keira firmly believes in happy endings. For as Oscar Wilde once said, “The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what fiction means.”

  1. I never had a snowball fight! There’s never been snow in my country!! The downside of lived in equatorial..
But if I could, I think I’d hide and throw snowballs to whoever passed by!! 😀

  2. I love snow fighting! Building forts and plotting ambushes is my thing! But if I could choose only one person it would be my husband because he would plot along with me and this wouldn’t be an oridinary snow fight. But if I was to choose a book character than I’m faithful to my one and only book crush Caden from Hearts in Darkness. A muscled, tattooed guy and I’m mush. And an EMT….in a uniform…mmmm 😉

  3. I would love to have a snowball fight with my friends… All together. You see, lately it is getting more and more difficult to gather more than two or three of us together at a time, what with families and jobs and so on. So I would love to have a nice gathering of all the old gang together… 🙂

  4. I’d love to even be able to have a snowball fight — we never get enough snow here in England! Which may be why I love reading about people being snowed-in; it reminds me of the Enid Blyton books I read as a child. I’d like to have a fight with my nieces.

  5. I haven’t had a snowball fight in years! It would be fun to get friends together and have a big one.

  6. I would love to have a snowball fight with my son. We haven’t really been able to do it yet due to lack of snow fall in previous years and his age.

  7. ANYONE! I’ve never even *seen* snow! (except from a distance.) I even went to Alaska way back in 1994 and I saw icebergs and glaciers but no snow to touch and throw and walk on and certainly no snow actually falling – it was spring. A good time to visit Alaska but a terrible time to see snow as it happens!
Where I live, snow is extremely rare and very slight and only on the top of what passes for our local “mountain”. Maybe once every year or two there will be a cold day and there will be a small amount of snow which melts almost immediately. There are snowfields in other states but I’ve not been there either. Mostly when we go on holidays, we go to the beach (which probably explains that!).

  8. I think a snowball fight with my best friend. We’ve never been in snow together because it doesn’t snow here, but we’ve had great fun in the rain.

  9. My sweet hubs! Then we’d have a roaring fire and drink some hot chocolate with Baileys or maybe some scotch instead of hot chocolate. 🙂

  10. I have never been in a snowball fight. In fact, I have only seen snow a handful of times — usually on vacation. I would like to have a snowball fight with my husband.

  11. Loved reading everyone’s responses! I’ll have to have some extra snowball fights this winter for those of you without snow. 😀

Thanks to everyone for commenting and to Joanna for the wonderful holiday extravaganza!

  12. You should remember that Use an egg to antique your sterling silver jewelry.
Just boil the egg, chop it up, and put it in a
bag with your silver piece. In a few hours your jewelry will
change colors and then you can polish it to a beautiful antiqued look.

This is an effective method because egg contains sulfur,
and sulfur causes the reaction when mixed with sterling silver.
